After a few minutes up the pole outside our house he left. Internet connected first time,
Nice - sounds like roughly what they did to us too. There's a box near the top of the pole, with a bit of wire that seems to hook up to the circle that goes round the top, and from there the line to your house. They replaced the wire between the box and the circle I think

Yes - often 2-4 times my synch speed with speedtest , although I find thinkbrooadband ones seem accurate
I use the TB one for my tests now. Amazingly when you have a line fault , Orange tell you to use TB as opposed to ST. You think they'd do it the other way round, although I found ST wouldn't even load when I was having my horrendous speed issues about a year ago

Well done - can you give us the details as outlined by nhyder? - now you have a new connection.
I had no idea that they were stopping the service and I've been running charity websites for a disability group for years vis Freeserve/Wanadoo/Orange.
Have they just been deleted and are gone forever?
Much of the stuff I don't have any more and it's important stuff.
I suppose I could reconstruct something again but there's years of work on the original site PLUS the fact that my www address is redirected there and I have no idea how to change that.
Have you tried looking on the Wayback machine ( http://www.archive.org/web/web.php ) ? If your site dates back to 2007 you may find some of your pages have been archived - you can then use the Save Page As option to save the page to disk. Unfortunately larger images tend not to be archived.
If your home phone line is a BT one not an Orange one (I presume they exist) then I'd log a fault on 150 and deal with BT direct if there is noise on your line. They should be able to come within a half day window, and you will see the fault record on your BT bill. I'd be very surprised if BT can commit to an exact time like that, and may just be more BS from Orange
Let us know if they don't come. You may have a similar problem to us and your phone line may actually die soon. Also, when people call you, are the rings as normal or do they break up?
My phone line is with orange not BT. Worst mistake ever.
According to a named person in the faults department in belfast, the engineer is definitely coming today between 1 and 6pm.
The phone ring seems normal.
Heres the latest stats, upstream speed that seemed fixed has halved????
ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : ADSL2+
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 11.9
Attenuation (dB) : 50.5
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 811
ADSL status : Connected [0]
It's not a DNS issue as the server will resolve to the above IP address. I'm also unable to ping this server but this may be the default behavior for smtp servers to not respond to ICMP requests (can't remember). I also cannot telnet on 25 to this server.
I hasten to add that all of the above has been tried on multiple PC's.
I might have to bite the bullet and ring Orange, God help me...
Edit. Is anyone else successfully using smtp.orange.net?

I am still noticing that the connection mode keeps changing between G.DMT, ANSI, ADSL2 and ADSL2+.
Ive also noticed that it alternates between interleaved and fast. I would have thought if my line is unstable then they would leave interleaving on.
I also seem to only hold sync when the connection speed is 608 kbps down.
I havent a clue what are orange are doing but its all very odd. reminds me of when they first put LLU in my exchange in 2006.
The general instability indicates a serious problem with their servers and/or routers, as you say it's exactly like when they implemented LLU, for me that was 2005......3 years on and I'm seeing almost the same problems.
I think interleaving is controlled by BT even on LLU and is possibly automatic so that's why you're seeing it go on and off.....the signal/line is erratic.

I noticed that earlier on in this thread, you posted your IP address.
Not a good idea to post the whole address (security) but can you confirm that you are still on an address that starts 91.111.??????
It seems that most of us with that address sequence are experiencing problems of one sort or another.
Thanks for the tip, i hadnt noticed id posted that.
My address recently has been starting 91.111 but since its started working again its 91.110.

I've been using my orange account for a few years now and have always used pop.orange.net / smtp.orange.net. Now over the last 18 or so months I've occasionally not been able to send emails due to issues similar to the ones described in the other threads on here.
However, I could always temporarily get around the issue by renewing my IP from my ISP. For some reason it would work with some and not others. Maybe they've black-listed an IP range? I dunno.... Anyway, I recently changed my ISP from Bulldog (Pipex) to O2 (Be) and have found that I am now completely unable to send emails.
I think this may well be coincidental however as I have created Outlook accounts on friends / relatives PC's that use various Broadband connections and none of them work so I don't think my new connection is to blame after all.
I don't have the exact Outlook error to hand at the moment but will add it later when I get home. btw, I've tried multiple email clients too.
I'd be interested to hear if oher peeps have had this issue. I'd phone Orange to report this but I get the feeling that the person on the other end would be clueless and probably blame my PC or connection...

This is the latest update on my situation for anybody who is interested.
The engineer failed to arrive. Orange say there still isnt a fault on the line but they are now saying an engineer will call at 12pm tomorrow.
Having had enough, I rang up and requested a MAC code. Lo and behold, within 2 hours of that call, the internet is working perfectly with the phone on the hook.
The line is still very noisy though, so ive asked them to confirm to me by email that the engineer is coming.
I have already cancelled the direct debit so if no engineer shows it stays cancelled.
PS No offence but could we keep this thread on topic?
PPS Here are my line stats for anyone who might know what orange are up to
Im currently in rural town that actually for some strange reason upgraded to max adsl 2 years ago. ( i get 5.5. on avg )
However given my increasing health problems and needs for accessibility on ground floor I am looking to move elsewhere ( Inverness ) which is more disabled friendly.
Be that as it may I am shocked and more than little upset to find the location I was hoping to move has dismal speeds that range between 256 / 512 up to 1 mb on BT and sam knows checkers.
( BT claims its 1 - 3 mb )
And so , because there is no 3g coverage either ( there is 30 - 50 meters away ) I been looking to see what, if anything I can do for faster speeds.
Given Orange seem to be the only operator for LLU in my area ( see blow )
I was wondering if it would be realistic to expect the quoted speed of 3mb (min ) and above , given the apparent problems with my location ( 2mb copper wire / length of line etc )
Or in other words how taking a contract out with LLU would differ in any way , if the aftermentioned issues with the line was still there.
If any one else happens to live round this areas Id also be very interested in hearing what current speeds you were getting too.
Fortunately my ethernet from the livebox (usually) to my desktop remains when the wireless goes
Can you sign on from the desktop via the ethernet connection ?
No I couldn't, it's the desktop I use to 'speak to my livebox' and make any changes, I don't think I would be able to do anything from my laptop. Anyway, for the interest of any others who experience this, I googled and found that I would need to do a factory reset on the livebox to get the admin/admin working again, which I hate having to do because then I run the risk of losing wireless AND ethernet connection to the damn livebox, anyway, I did it and fortunately it worked and I was able to log in using admin/admin and change my settings.
Interestingly I have realised my fault seems to be linked to the 'network area 2 cable is unplugged' error message that I have been getting for a few months now. I used to get it when I was using only my desktop and speedtouch modem but it didn't affect my connection but the livebox seems very sensitive and when I get the 'network cable is unplugged' error message it seems to cause the problems with my wireless. It stops all my connections briefly and when they come back my wireless settings are gone and need changing. I have googled again and it seems to be not an uncommon problem but I'm no computer whizz so some of the things to try are a bit beyond me sadly.
Also interestingly since this latest mishap, and the factory reset the pairing light has stopped flashing and is now static but wireless seems to be working anyway.... it's beyond me?
