Sadly spam (and anti-spam measures) cause such problems now that if email is important to you, then you can't afford to rely on the services of any one mass-market ISP.
There was a report released in the last few days from a single email scanning company who said in the last Three months of the year the amount of spam had gone up 75%. It's stupidly high already and things don't look like they're going to get better anytime soon. Until something major happens anti-spam systems will make this sort of thing only get worse IMO.
I've had the same problem. I sent an email from Orange Webmail to a Virgin.net address on Xmas Eve. It's still not been received and no bounce yet.
Just to update this. Emails that I send now are bouncing back after 24Hrs with this message
Quote:
<********@Virgin.net>: delivery temporarily suspended: host inbound.Virgin.net.cust.securehostedemail.com[64.97.139.1] refused to talk to me: 554 n001.sc1.cp.net Service not available - access denied
Suggesting that now the Virgin server is refusing to accept mail from Orange, and Orange keep trying for 24Hrs before bouncing back to sender.
So that's at least some improvement over the emails disappearing into a black hole
