It's just so confusing because some checkers say I cannot get this, but other checkers say I can etc. It would be ideal if there was a OFCOM (or whichever regulator monitors internet comms) checker' that way there would be a single, reliable test result.
Best to check on the ISP's checker......if they get it wrong, walk away !!!

I really think OFCOM should offer a tool like this, I'm sure plenty of people would find it useful!

I doubt OFCOM would do that, they're an industry watchdog and not really there to help the ISP business in quite that way. If they were interested in that sort of system then it's likely they'd just require BTW to do it. After all no matter the provider or if it's LLU it has to go through them for ADSL broadband.
Call me an indecisive fool, but I was reading what Orange has to say about requesting MACs, and I saw this:
Quote:
do I have to give notice to close my account if I'm switching providers?
If your contract minimum period has finished, the closure is subject to 30 days' notice; this will be applied to your account once the MAC is used. (You can still switch if you're within your minimum contract period, but you'll have to pay for however many months you have left.)
Contract minimum period? Is this actually referring to each RENEWED yearly contract, or just an amount of time?
I've been with Orange ever since they took over from Wanadoo - that's longer than 12/18months isn't it?
