A new livebox probably won't fix the connection problems, as the engineer identified the speed as the problem it's probably still related to that.
Temperature can and does effect lines. Heat expands them then they contract at night when it cools off (well a little, it's still too hot at night here!)
Also normally if BT identify speed as the cause they downgrade the line automatically, thats partly why you had such trouble getting Orange to do it, it's normally done by the engineers so they're not really involved at all.
right, well, since i did all the tweaking as described in my second post on this suvject my connection has been barable, not perfect, worked solid for 4 days, but then started dropping out again, but less frequent now, only around 4-5 times a day,as for kirby asking for a new modem, they HAVE to give you a new one,as its not your property, its only on loan to you. oh and by the way,i am still waiting for a special delivery bag to send my old modem back, they say if it is not recieved by them within 28 days, they will charge me 100 pounds, now if i have no bag to send it back to them in,its not my fault, why should i pay to send their property back,i told them on the phone, that if you try and charge me 100 quid, then there will be hell to pay,and if i dont recieve this bag my monday,i will call them back and demand a courier to pick it up.
anyway,as for connection errors, nobody knows what it is,but my house was checked top to bottom, from my house to the exchange, they changed everything they could think of,so its down to Orange i say, something happened with new servers installed i reckon, they just dont want to admit mistake
The interesting thing is since my roommate went away for 10 days I ran a direct cable down the stairs (very dangerous, it cuts right across the staircase) and since then my connection has been very stable, dropping out only a few times a day (instead of every 2 minutes) and mainly reconnecting when it did.
I've yet to find out if this is the reason as its possible that the livebox might be having a "good day". Unfortunately my room-mate is my landlord as well and he absolutely refuses to allow me to run a cable down the stairs to the livebox (he uses wireless too so it would be two cables).
It it possible that my (free wanadoo) wireless adaptor could be causing my livebox to reboot ? It seems unlikely, but so far this is the only thing I can see possible. If the line was going at the wrong speed and on top of that the box reboots randomly as well that would make it even more difficult to keep a steady connection.
well i can say now that after a long time,my livebox has been very stable indeed,i am using the Orange livebox, sent the wanadoo one back, but i am not using the wireless adapter that came originally, and you may right, that it causes the livebox to do weirds stuff,if you remember just after the big takeover, there was a big firmware update, and some of the wanadoo kit just couldnt handle the software,as my wireless adapter would not work any more, but i now use red ethernet cat45 crossover cable direct to my pc,and since all of the threats to Orange about seeking legal advice, they have been very helpful(wonder why? lmao) but my connection has not reset now for 16 days, and its still going solid,so fingers crossed, its been sorted out.
really hope ya get it sorted kirby2000 mate.
