You need to be very careful about cancelling long contracts. I think you must get them to agree first that you can cancel & the route there is through the ISPA.

As I pointed out in your other thread DO NOT cancel the DD. Before you know it you'll have debt collection agencies after you & potentially a bad credit rating. This may only rarely happen but it has happened so be warned.

I'll say again do it via the ISPA.
HI Tinytim

Thanks.

I've emailed Orange and told them I will cancel on Monday and I'll also contact the ISPA.....

I'm tired of Orange now and armed with a list of the complaints here hopefully I can resolve it with one of their service people.

thanks

If you want out try contacting the ISPA. There's no way 0range can hold you to a contract where they don't provide a reasonable service.

I was just hung up on by a technician, either he did it on purpose or Orange can't even keep their own phone system working.

Basically I had called to complain about a snail connection with my dongle.
So after talking me through adding new settings the thing was slower to connect than previously.

I said-
'Should it take this long to connect?" (after more than 2 minutes)
He said-
'Can take a minute or so."

Then some more of his breathing.
Then the phone went dead.

I used to work in a call centre.
I know when I've been hung up on.

Hello Jamie
I don't know if I can help but I can tell you what has happened so far !!
I have spent over 2 hours on the phone to Orange Tech with them trying all sorts of configurations with a new wireless adaptor I bought from them but no such luck and after all that just said it must be a problem with my Desktop so that was that there I was I could connect with the ethernet cable ok but not wirelessly so thought for a while and looked in the exceptions in the Windows Firewall and added the wireless manager file which was not there this is the original adaptor an Inventel so I added the WLANCFG File which is the wireless manager and now it seems to work with no problems for a few days so I keep my fingers crossed.
If that is all it was it does not say very much for Orange Technical Help.
So basically after all this waffle all I did was add the wireless manager file to the exceptions in windows firewall..
sounds a bit to simple really but its working and I hope it stays that way

Hi Petesilver, hope you don't mind me hijaking your post but I have the same/similair problem I think! Would you be able to help Jonathan?

I have a Siemens Gigaset box supplied through my Orange Broadband. My laptop connected to it no problems wirelessly. My iphone also finds it a piece of cake. However I now have adesktop for work which I want to connect. I have put a wireless card in it, and the wireless card is working the signal strength is fine I just can't get it on the net.

I think its a problem with getting the IP address or something, but I'm now stuck. Have tried XP to configure the connection, the software I got with the wireless card and the Orange CD I got with the broadband, but no luck.

Any ideas?

Thanks in adavnce, Jamie

OK, Ive had an email back from Jonathan
"From notes on your account, relating to the connection speed investigation, our technical support team has advised this is something that we are unableto assist with. It is an issue, as you have also mentioned in your email, with congestion at the exchange at peak times and until this capacity isincreased we are unable to improve the connection at this time. Unfortunatelyincreasing capacity is out of our control. I am sorry I can not offer any further assistance."

Ive just read up on the Kitz site where it says this
" As mentioned above we are customers of our ISP, who are in turn customers of BTWholesale, therefore if we run into problems with our adsl connection. BTWholesale will not talk to the end user for fault reporting."

So by my reckoning, Orange should be badgering BT Wholesale in order for them to sort out their sh***y local exchange, not fobbing me off with a " weve done all we can, its not our problem that we charge you for a service which BT cock up, sorry but thanks for paying us anyway!"

Note: If anyone wants to know the details of the throttling, the behaviour I see here is as follows:

Generally, my connection on full speed runs about 870Kb/s.

During peak times, if I start a single download, I get the full 870Kb/s for about Three seconds, at which point the d/l speed halves to around 420Kb/s. It stays at half speed for about 30 seconds, and if the download still continues, the speed halves again (now a quarter of the line speed) to about 200Kb/s, where it seems to stay.

Just for info...

most likely is that your not on the correct profile for your line. Tell them about your stats and make them aware that you know what you can achieve and why - most noteably your noise margin whist plugged into the test socket and your speeds in the past.

The call centers are useless, they don't seem to have the power or are reluctant to request certain actions such as line regrades etc. It seems like the system has you stuck at 7.5Mb with a noise margin similar to mine when I was stuck at 1Mb.

I think you said you have contacted the exec. office right? That route worked pretty well for me. What happened for you?

Those are indeed the stats with the router plugged into the master socket with the frontplate removed. When I moved it there the stats were no different from those using my normal extension socket in another room.
If the problem is Orange's what do you think might be causing it? Just to give me something to suggest to them.

This can be down to 1 of 3 things......usually !

BB filter; router; or line/cabinet/exchange...these being outside of your control.

Buy a new filter and if you have an NTE5 main BT socket remove the frontplate and plug the router into the test socket inside.

If the same problem occurs then chances are it's an external fault.

Is there noise on the phone line, dial 17070 option 2 using a corded analogue phone in the test socket and listen for any noise.

If you have access to another router then substitute, just to eliminate that.

Hi,

Basically every time my phone is taken off the hook the internet will disconnect for like a minute, and then re-connect during the phone call, but then it will disconnect again for a minute when the phone is put down.

This never used to happen before, any ideas on what's going on? Intially i'm thinking it could be a problem with the setup, but nothing has changed afaik and it was working before?

Thanks to anybody who can help it's appreciated, i'm getting a few phone calls every night and it's rather annoying when it keeps d/c!

So what did the BT speedtestet results indicate ?

The results where what I already knew, during peak time, my net access is fecking useless.
Problem is that its during the peak time I need access, not at stupid O'clock in the morning when theres no-one online.
