Dear Group
I have my own domain name and recently upgraded from email forwarding (from my domain to my Orange address) to a pop service from my domain name host. The idea of this was so that when I travelled about I didnt have to keep changing my SMTP address. The pop and smtp addresses are both mail.mydomain.co.uk (server requires authentication - use same setting as smtp) I can happily send and receive emails with these settings with numerous other isps eg Virgin, Sky, BT, Tiscali and all web cafe's etc. However when at home and using Orange I cant send emails and have to set the outgoing server to smtp.orange.co.uk (an of course untick the authentication box).
The problem I am having seems specific to Orange. Can anybody explain why Orange seem to be blocking me conecting to my domain email server, and can anybody suggest a solution so I dont have to keep changing my settings . . . other than leaving Orange!
Many thanks
Orange block access on port 25 (smtp servers) to everything but their own server. It is a recommended option by some anti-spam organisations.
If you want to work around it then you need to use a port other than 25 to connect to, however this must be configured by the server so you can't just use any port number you like.

I did this a while back and it worked fine - I was using 587 for SMTP and 993 for IMAP. Recently T'bird and my Palm TX stopped receiving mail via the livebox - I could use the TX at other locations, so it was specific to my Orange connection.
I have had to change both to 443 to get mail flowing again.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? Have Orange started blocking other ports?
