Your line will have a 10 day training period where the speed will fluctuate and occasional drop outs.
The line will be looking for the maximum stable rate. I would leave it til after this 10 day period before contacting Orange. My line fluctuated alot and my spped is around 6-6.5mb, apart from the other night that is.
That's slightly better, (if not altogether good), news. At least it's expected.
Thank you.
Any idea how long it's gonna be this slow for though? It's almost unusable.
What did the BT tester say your line profile was set at?
And back on topic - my speed has dropped again tonight. This is unacceptable - I will be taking my broadband elsewhere as soon as Be upgrade my exchange

It's worked now.
IP profile for your line is - 152 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8096 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 118 kbps
Still very slow here too I was prepared to stay with Orange even though I had a few problems last September it sorted itself and had been fine until now. Thankfully it's a only a matter of days until my year is up. Anyone got suggestions as to a half decent isp?

This is worse than IDSN I had 5 years ago!!
OK you will need to wait the full 10 days before complaining to Orange. I suggest you turn off your livebox once a day for about 10 minutes - this will hopefully make the BT system realise your line can go faster.
If that fails phone Orange after the 10 days and tell them your line profile is stuck. They will do their "line test" then request BT to manually set the profile.
Ok, i'll assume that was yesterday as that's when my connection took a nosedive.
However, am I not righ tin thinking that my initial BRAS profile should have been set at 2Mbps? This should certainly have been stable as I've never had problems before the upgrade when my profile was 2000Kbps.
Why the hell would the system start testing at 152Kbps on a line that's unfalteringly supported 2Mbps in the past?
You guys are certainly more savvy than me and I will take your advice and not ring Orange until the 10 days are up. I'm just not convinced that will sort the problem.
