Thanks for the reply i was down my mate's house earlyer this week and tryed his internet, could manage to work out how to get his stats but i noticed his speed was only 1.5 mb max at 11 am on the morning,do you think it must where are living that the cables must go all around shildon first before getting to us,cause we are living in the last estates that were built in shildon back 30 years ago.And i know that our cables are all under ground.
hello all again, just wounder if i am doing some thing wrong.
First i have now gone wirless now instead off using wired and my live box has synced at this now
ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : ADSL2+
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 10.1
Attenuation (dB) : 60.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 3266
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 3007 605
But when i do a speed test it still only gets 2.5 mbps max can anybody tell what's wrong!!!!
right ok,but there is only 1 thing that is bugging me that is my mate 3 door's down is on talktalk and he is downloading at at speeds of 3.1 and the line is able of 3.5 so why does'nt Orange give me that speed!!!!!
sorry i forgot to say that my mate from work live's a lot closer to the exchange that why he gets 7mbps but my mate 4 doors down is on talktalk and he gets 3.1 mbps download speed all the time so why i am confused as i only get 2.5 mbps download
sure he will be getting the similar stat's with his attention cause we live in a culdesack and as i have worked out that the cable is supposed to run 4 miles around shildon be getting to my house(bahm BT).
I have got my livebox wired straight in the phone socket then running wirless.i have takin the nte5 plate off and pluged it in there and that is what i am syncing at!!!!
Would you think there could be a fault on my line, that's proventing me to get the full 3.5 max that BT state my will handle!!!!
It's nothing to do with BT.....you are on Orange LLU ADSL2+.
Read the links in my post above.
Check your MTU and RWIN settings and amend if necessary. As you're now on ADSL2+ it's likely that they will need to change.
As you are plugged into the test socket behind the NTE5 faceplate then you are already eliminating any possible wiring problems inside your house.
If after all this you sync at the same rate and speed test sites give the same results then you have maximised your connection.
What you can't do is compare your connection to your mate next door because that's like comparing your Mini to his Mondeo....it's a different ISP, a different house, a different router, different cables etc etc
Here is the test results, not sure if i did it right thought please let me know if i have put the right setting in

RWIN is in range
Vista has no tunable TCP settings
Read the tweak FAQ
Observations:
Good data stream (no/few rexmits)
Observations:
Become pingable
if you need basic packet loss tests done
Check tweak FAQ
this is the second test i think i put the right settings in!!!!

Thanks for everything sorted mymtu out and got a little more dowload speed but not much now only downloading at 2.6 -2.7 mb at max,but i think if the live box is showing these states i should have that speed, but nevermind i guess that this only the most my line can handl.
I got Orange to change me from adsl2+ back to adsl would things change!!!!
but i think if the live box is showing these states i should have that speed
I don't think you understand how broadband works
You will only achieve at best 85% of your sync speed....the 15% or so losses are down to the various technicalities within the broadband supply system (not just Orange but all ISPs)
So your sync of 3014kbps should give a throughput at best of 2561kbps but as low as 2500kbps. If you get anything better than 2561kbps then you're doing pretty good.
ADSL2+ does not perform well on an attenuation as high as yours as I've said earlier in this thread so if Orange will drop you back then you might get between 200kbps and 500kbps more also probably a more consistent connection.
