I've been working on pc's for many years now but have never come across this problem. The connection is Orange 2mb broadband connected with a speedtouch 330 modem, everything has been fine for the last six months until two days ago. The modem connects with no problem as always but as soon as it accesses any web page the line drops and the modem light flashes. From then on the right led goes through stages of solid and flashing and no web pages can be accessed. I've changed the modem and leads, re-installed windows and connected directly to the master socket with a new filter but the problem is still the same. Any help as to the cause of this problem would be much appreciated as i've spent over 12 hours trying to sort the problem with no result
I was with Orange/Wanadoo/Freeserve for many years up until a few months ago when I started to get line drops that lasted from minutes up to a maximum of 4 days. I got a MAC and migrated to Idnet and haven't had any problems since.
If you could try a "before" and "after" on your line stats.
Before = the connection as it is now.
After = connect directly to the main BT linebox with NOTHING else plugged in to the box or any extensions, not even a phone.
Yesterday i took the pc out to their hall and plugged it directly into the master socket, there was nothing else plugged in and the problem was exactly the same. The lights are on, it connects perfectly but as soon as you try and access a web page the line drops and the light is flashing I called Orange again tonight and while being charged a billion pound a minute was told that BT had found a fault, and to call back again in 24 hours to be charged another billion pound a minute :-0 Thanks for your posts by the way
