Hi all!
I have seen on the Forum that the last comment regarding Orange TV dates back to 2007.
Is there somebody here who knows what's going on about TV?
I have worked for Orange in France until july last year and there's been there a triple play offer since 2005 consisting of Broadband (ADSL2+), VOIP and TV including freeview and any Canal+ package for about £30...
Why not in the UK ?
The service was trialled and then dropped. Suppose it could come back as they have the backend services there to support it.
I think the main problems they probably had was that most people who want a greater TV choice already have either cable or Sky. Also all they were supplying was Freeview with on demand content, just like BT vision and any use of on demand does limit the available bandwidth for internet use. The only difference was what films, shows and premium content they'd be able to get which would probably just be the same old same old as all the other on demand services.
The reason it worked so well in france is because they didn't have same level of supply as cable/Sky already has in the UK. Get in at the beginning and it's easy to get a good market share, trying to join a market is a lot harder especially when the closest rival, BT vision, has a superior setup. (from what I could tell, service and hardware wise)

Well, Orange, which is France Telecom Group, have sold a while ago their subsidiaries: France Telecom Cable (now equivalent to Virgin) and also TPS, which was a Sattelite TV provider (=Sky). FT has prefered to leave these networks to other companies and concentrate in their content. I know BT Vision as having used it a few months ago and I think it's very good. Still, Orange through France Telecom group has made alliances with many big US and worldwide film producers and therefore bring a nice amount of films. Now, in France, you have a large choice of TV providers. There is Satellite (Canal+Satellite or nowadays Orange as well if you can't have TV by Broadband), Cable, Digital Freeview by an aerial, Optic Fibre with a downstream of 100Meg in big cities and as for broadband is concerned several providers: Orange, Free, Alice, Club Internet and 9 (and all of them make a lot of money).
In france, getting free TV channels with your broadband provider is normal, why not in the UK?

Agree - in France there are so many options on ADSL TV.
I also don't understand why Orange don't offer similar product to Tiscali/Homechoice which also has other channels on top of Freeview - just like the way they do in France!
