TBH I'm skeptical on Snows account (sorry mate). Until there is further confirmation from another user with the same experience/ or another person with same stats on the same exchange- I'm not convinced.
I agree with Keith, if these upgrades are actually taking place then it would be in Oranges interests to actually make this known, even if it is a PR rep spreading the word- they need less soundbites and more 'action'.
However, if Snows results are genuine and are the shape of things to come, is 3.7-4.1 acceptable? Is half the speed of 8meg that was advertised going to be appropriate?...Is just over a meg above 2.7 worth it? I personally do not think so, this is no way near what you pay for- yes for some they'll be content, but again it is nowhere near what you are paying for.
It is a bloody shame when we start getting excited at a prospective 4meg connection when it should be 7 meg. They've yet to even address those stills tuck on half meg!
Is half the speed of 8meg that was advertised going to be appropriate?...
Well its clear that the current speeds are well below par. But we need to keep a sense of reality. The 8meg you mention or to be accurate the 7.15meg possible maximum would be with a good line within a certain distance of the exchange. Many do not meet this criteria and accept that 4meg is acceptable. I don't think its right to quote figures on the basis of what we should all get without looking at the individual factors. However, I do agree that the current situation is far from perfect and if and when Orange do sort it then my guess is that all those on LLU will get increased speeds on a sliding scale dependant on their setup and line.
Interestly, I was reading a couple of technical documents on the BT wholesale website recently (Myths and Legends of ADSLMax and thier ADSL Max Handbook). I know its not LLU but once your on the internet both are in the same boat and competing for bandwidth. Anyway, the documents both made quite clear that it is very rare to max out you speed with a single connection. It went on to say that this is more likely to occur if you are doing multiple downloads. It reckoned that on a single download at the max sync rate opf 8128 and max IP Profile of 7150 you would at best normally average about 5 to 5.5 meg and this would be when the internet is not busy.

The challenge is on then. Anyone else on Glossop exchange on LLU?
Please post you speed tests here.
snow 2004 please do not take offence at remark but it is strange that no one else is reporting increase in speeds however knowing Orange it is possible that someone has pushed the wrong button on your account.
Sorry guys for any typos this is rushed.
Dont worry guys none taken. Obviously it is in youre highest interests that im genuine. Ive been around for months on here since September when I first got LLU,d
From there it took me just a day to figure out something was wrong. I noticed the speed never crept above 2.7 meg. This was before were all aware of a speed capping problem on the LLU network.
I posted on her asking whether it was errors on the line limiting throughput and that i what I thought until Keith came along and brought the 2.7 meg problem to our attention. I even carried out a speedtest at 4 o clock in the morning and still not above 2.7 so i knew something was wrong.
Since then I have worked closly with this issue as it matters
I only noticed the higher download speeds by accident. I was doing an Apple sofware update and the download stayed at 500 kilobytes per second. I thought this cant be correct as I can never ever download faster then 340 kilobytes
I did some research during that week and found that all speedtests came out much faster. The speed in the evening is still very slow from around six o clock till 11. My 3.7 -4.1 speeds are consistent through the day which is pleasing.
Heres a screengrab i took before. It shows my livebox config. A download that was running from microsoft at the timeas a test. There is also a speedtest from the BBMaxsite. I will be back later to comment further.
The screenshot is a 1280* 800 size one so keep clicking on the photo until it appears fullscreen.
EDIT
Ive removed the links from my Orange photos page and replaced them with a Imageshack one in my post below.

That wont let me sign in, says my email address is unknown :s and i did get it on eventually but it was really small... can you not stick it on imageshack / photobucket? Cheers.
The reality for many here highlights the misgivings of Orange as an inferior ISP.
Where Orange has failed to satisfy, people have successfully moved on to other ISPs where the service they receive is actually what they expect from their ISP.
Their problems (as well as others) was not due to 'individual factors', but the fact that Orange can not provide the service. Period. Not line distance, not dodgy wiring i.e. nothing to do with the customers setup at all.
If one was to be pedantic about the accuracy of 7.15meg or 8meg, the issue is still valid- if obtaining these high speeds are ficticious/available to very few then they should not be advertising as such. But then again the issue of false advertising has been thrashed to death and will continue to be done. If they change the advertising to "Up to 2.7meg" that would be more accurate and anyone getting above it could be considered lucky.
I'll still stand my comment that a potential speed enhancement of 3.7-4.1 is not acceptable, especially when people know that they can get speeds of 6 meg. Again, some will be satisfied- but they actually won't be getting what they've paid for.
If 8meg= £19.99, I want to be paying £1.25 monthly for my half meg connection. Would that be unfair to ask?
To snow: Assuming you're LLU is genuine, it would be interesting to find out how many users are actually connected to your exchange. An explanation for your speed could be attributed to very few using your exchange or better LLU equipment. Btw, what is the maximum upload you have seen on your connection- not from speed checkers but say from uploading, no downloading, to a peer?
I have posted a small screenshot via imageshack that can be enlarged to full screen.
Personally i find it would be very cruel of me to give false hope to others by posting non genine speeds. It is also no benefit to me to fake speeds as I had bin moaning since September about my capped speeds. But i do understand as the only reported increase so far it seems a little strange.
The maximum upload i get over msn messenger is around 30 -31 kilobytes per second. This is one of the things that bugs me about LLU is that the upload at just 288k is fairly pathetic in todays terms. 0.5 meg upload would be great.

I have also noted that evening peak time speeds are slowly starting to increse from the dreadful levels of a few weeks ago. It now hovers at around 1 meg from 6pm -11. I know this is still very poor but it is much better than the 0.2 meg i was getting a couple of weeks ago.
I couldnt even stream a video. My new improved download speeds seem to last all day until 6 now which is good. Im now hoping to see improved speeds for everyone now.
As Keith said any other users on the Glossop exchange syncing above 3 meg please post your stats as it would be a very usful input to the thread.
To Keith. Have you seen the screenshots i took yesterday evening. I made a more detailed one for you if that helps.
Hi Keith
Its in the post about four up from this one. The small windows thats appears showing livebox stats and a download from microsoft. It needs to be enlarged by clicking on it then it will open at the original size of 1280 * 800.
