I was with Orange for around 6 months. In that time my broadband went down twice for 7 weeks at a time.
The last time it went down I managed to get out of the contract without paying anything due to non performance. I spoke to Off com I think it was and they told me what to say. They were in breech of the contract as they couldn't provide me with an internet connection and they had tried everything to get it to work.
It took forever but I finally got my MAC code and went with BT. This was in February this year.
Today I get a letter saying I owe £189 to them...I rang and asked why and they said it was for terminating my contract and for Februarys monthly bill (I hadnt had a connection since xmas last year!) At one point I was told I couldnt terminate my contract until I paid the fee...they wouldnt give me the MAC code....so thats when I looked into the legal side and they wasnt allowed to charge me. So they agreed with this.
A manager is supposed to be phoning me back. But I dont want this affecting my credit rating!
I aint paying a penny to them! It was only because I was 8 months pregnant I didnt take them to the small claims court for the stress it caused, my phone bill and for not having a connection for that long!
I work for the BB side of things, The reason you got that letter is basicly just due to the billing system and how it works, Basicly when we cance a acc without a fee and close it at the same time there is a box we tick that says "overdie cancalation fee", but when u use a MAC code we dont get the option of ticking that as ur acc says active untill u use it.
This shouldnt affect your credit rating. Also if you got promised a call back from a manager from the Indian call center call back to BB support as you will not recive this call back.
When you call them back advise them to look trough the notes in Customer Center, and they should find the ones that say you got out of contract for free.
If all else fail's as to be passed to EST ( Escalations ). We'll get it sorted .
Yes it's really not a good idea announcing that you work for Orange on this site.
As the name suggests - Orange problems, means that people are loaded with frustration usually by the time they find this site.
If Orange were a real company with employees that could help then this site wouldn't need to exist.

Also, I really HATE the 'oh the system does it automatically'. Generally when I get one of those letters it infuriates me more than anything but it can cause others extreme stress and if you are 8 months pregnant well it doesn't bear thinking about.
Orange, like many other companies need to deal with this.
