The offer of two months of free broadband (2nd and 3rd month of service) was what swung it in Pipex's favour in the end. I was down to Pipex and BT, Pipex are the only company that can offer me a Max service with unmetered use.
The feedback from Pipex subscribers, including a 'review' by a friend of mine, suggests that Pipex have better Customer Support than the other big companies.
When I get my service up and running, I'll let you know how it goes in here .
I'm loving Pipex already, and the migration doesn't go through for another few days. I've received a letter about my new account, which is informative and concise. I've had a courtesy call, keeping me up to date on all that's happening. And I've had an email, confirming the details of my switch, and giving me various methods of contact should anything go awry.
Migration went through today, with no down-time whatsoever. They've simply migrated me accross on the same speed connection I'm already on, and will be bumping me up to adsl Max within the next few days. This is both sensible, and satisfactory.
I've had more correspondence from Pipex in the last few days than I've had during my last 12 months with Wanadoo/Orange. This has arrived in the form of both e-mails and snail-mails, and has been replete with valid and useful information.
The single Customer Support phone call I've made so far was to a polite, informative and professional chap, who was able to give me the information I requested in a clear, concise and appropriate manner, without deferring to colleagues/BT/escalations teams, or putting me on hold for 15 minutes, only to inform me that I need to call back 24 hours later.
Finally, despite the fact that Pipex are performing maintainance on their website, member center and login servers, I was in a queue for CS for less than two minutes. Obviously there aren't many knock-on effects of this maintainance for the consumer. This doesn't particularly surprise me. Upon logging into my account, I was greeted with a message explaining the nature, and likely duration of the maintainance, as well as information on which parts of the member area were affected, and which weren't.
So far it's a big thumbs-up for Pipex from me. I'll post here again to let you know how the switch to adsl Max goes.
