Unless there is some legal implicatations, and only you can determine that, I do not think the emails should have been removed.
I would guess that by not complying with Orange's request, OP could be seen as obstructive and condoning mass bombardment which would do our cause no good whatsoever.
But I do believe that OP should have received something in return.....which they didn't.
I'm still hopeful that a one-to-one direct line of communication between OP and Orange may happen.
And the magic head office switchboard number is 0113 2229100 - ask for DSL Customer Services & it seems to be a head office department who dont appear to be expecting your call -
