Been having problems with my connection for a couple of months. Thought it was my PC...then I discovered this forum!!
I've contacted Orange and the first time got sent around in a big circle. Second time I spoke to someone the line was so bad I gave up. Third time they wanted to go through a checklist of possible problems. Halway through I realised I had checked all these things myself. I'm no techy, but I used to teach basic IT to adults and know what to check when the connection is C**P
I've now decided enough is enough.
can anyone help? I've been with the same ISP (technically) since getting the internet years ago. I.E Started with Freeserve, this was taken over by Wanadoo which is now Orange. As I've been with them all this time, am I right in thinking that I only have to give them 30 days notice of my intention to leave and will not have to pay any outstanding contract...not that I'd be inclined to give them anymore money! Will I still need a MAC code? Or should I cancel, wait for the tag to be removed and then find a new ISP.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
By the way, I am posting this from my work machine (with permission) as my home connection isn't working properly....wonder why!!!!!!!

You can cancel and wait for the tag to be removed but this can sometimes linger on if Orange don't do there bit. Best to get a MAC find another ISP and move if thats what you intend. Once the move has taken place ensure your contract with Orange is/has been cancelled and cancel any direct debit.
Might be beneficial to see what your line stats are just to ensure you do not have any possible problems with your line or house equipment.
Yes as long as you're not in their nightmare 12 month contract (they would have had to renew it) then you can leave in 30 days.
Like TV man says - get your MAC code and pass this on to your new ISP.
There are some very recommended ISP s like Idnet (mine), Be etc.
The sooner you leave Orange the better they are not a real ISP just a disgrace.
Also they have to provide you with a MAC within 5 working days by law.
Provided you have never requested an upgrade in service, you will still be on your original contract.
Even if you asked for an upgrade, in contract law Orange had to notify you that a new contract period would be invoked, if they didn't then legally there is no new contract.
But post your Speedtest.net result and your router stats because there may be an easy improvement that can be made while you change over ISPs.
cosmicdance and tvman
What a change to get sensible answers from someone within minutes of asking for help....don't seem to get that with Orange!!!!!!
To quote Mr Bobby Ball..." Thank you...Thank you...Once again...I thank you.
Will look into new ISP's now
