Hello, i was wondering if anyone could give me any advice for changing ISPS from Orange to Virgin. What number to i ring for a MAC Code. Also does the MAC Code auto cancel my direct debit from Orange. Thanks in advance. Z.J.C
Virgin Media provide two types of broadband. Cable which should not require a MAC and the normal telephone line which will. Go to oranges home page and select Help & Support, then broadband. When you get to the help page type kb732 into the search box and press find. The MAC process will appear with contact numbers, etc.

I beleive that being issued with a MAC starts a 30 day cancellation period. You would expect any direct debit to also be cancelled after this time but do not count on it. Best to do that yourself.

Only if the MAC is used, if not the service continues as normal. I've read the 30 day period starts once the MAC is confirmed as being used but I'm not 100% on that.

Yes. correct. According to oranges MAC process 30 days starts from when it is confirmed as used. I would take this to mean when they get notification of the migration being completed.
I would definitely cancel your direct debit after you have got moved to Virgin as Orange have been known to 'forget' to stop taking money afterwards.
There have been plenty of posts on here saying about this.
Also the fact that you can still use Orange email accounts pretty much forever after you have have left is interesting.
I do get the feeling their departments don't communicate fully with each other and operate almost independently.
hi, thanks for the info, going to ring for my MAC On monday and then give it to Virgin. £10 a month for what im getting now doesnt sound that bad. Hey does anyone no if there is a way to unlock the livebox at all. Just becuase im going to be without a router for at least 3 weeks and thats the only one i have spare.
Thanks In Advance.
I accutly paid £40 for my livebox becuase the wouldnt give me it free. So i will expect that £40 back. IS anyone else with Virgin media. If so whats your service like. ( Non-Cable)

You would be better asking on the Virgin Media forums on Thinkbroadband Here and choose the relevant one Cable or ADSL they also have a forum here CableHell .

Yes original liveboxes were bought and they can provide the code, has to be written in for I believe and the contract back then supposedly made references to an "unspecified fee" for the unlock code. I've never heard of them being £40, always quite a bit more that that. They stopped selling them a bit over 2 years ago I believe, can't remember exactly when now.
If you're getting broadband from Virgin for £10 a month then it's the cable variety, non-cabled all show as £14+ when I just checked their site.
The livebox is an ADSL router and getting it to work fully with a cable modem may be hard. It would be better to get a proper cable router for the connection.
