Hello all. I'm connecting my Orange home broadband using the Orange livebox. Until recently, I was getting download speed of around 1.5mbps, but recently, it's dropped to 350kbps. The strange thing is, is that if I use a broadband speed checker site, It responses with 2520kpbs download speed. It doesn't seem to matter what I use to download (Internet Explorer, FTP, Steam), they all max out at 350kbps.
This is happening to all computers on my network, wired or unwired. Does anyone know why this may be happening, and what I can do about it?
Ah, thanks for that. At least the numbers now make sense.
However, there's still the problem of why my speed has dropped from 1.5mpbs to 320kBps. Speaking to Orange support, they said that my local exchange was upgraded to fibre-optic at about the same time my speed dropped. Could this be related? I thought the speed would go up as a result of this if anything!

Like many others you are getting your "bits" and "Bytes" confused.
Your throughput speed off the speed test sites is usually in bits.
Hi there. Yes, I did receive an email from them 2 weeks before it slowed down, saying they were making "improvements to the line".
I can access the speetester.BT.com website, although I don't know if I was on an LLU or not. Either way, my speed has slowed down considerably. Would a different router perhaps solve the problem?

Were you on a LLU connection ?
If yes, can you now access www.speedtester.<a href="http://www.awin1.com/awclick.php?mid=3041&id=76445">BT</a>.com ?
If so then they've moved you across from LLU to <a href="http://www.awin1.com/awclick.php?mid=3041&id=76445">BT</a>.
Hi again. Thanks for your help with this. I checked the local exchange on the link you sent me, and here's the broadband bits:

My 'improving the service' email came on the 1st April and broadband download reliability has got worse ever since. I've had a lot of conversations with Orange but little action Strangely the upload speed never changes, despite download fluctuating randomly between 1.6 and zero.
In the Livebox system info ADSL data downstream rate is consistently around 2400 and upstream stays at around 740.
Is this a similar problem to yours?
Hi there. Yes it sounds similar, although my download speed doesn't fluctuate as much as yours (around 320-350 kpbs).
Orange has sent me a replacement router, which I have just configured, but unsurprisingly this has not fixed the problem. I will be back onto them next week!
